The Lennart Roll Top Desk

When you think of Swedish furniture, I'm sure the first thing that comes to mind is a big box store of cheap, boring pressboard furniture and an afternoon of stressful assembly which, is understandable, but unfortunate. Sweden's true furniture legacy lies in their beautiful contributions to the Scandinavian mid century modern movement with designer furniture like this piece. This desk design is attributed to Egon Östergaard, and was made by the furniture manufacturer "AB Bröderna Gustafsson" in the 1960's. 

The desk is covered in a high quality teak wood veneer, with three main desk drawers, three desktop drawers, 5 open slots for easy access and organizing. The roll top comes down to meet at the lip of the pullout desk surface, enclosing the desktop. There are some distinct features to this specific desk that set it apart from some similar, more common designs you may see; the top cover is set in an 8 panel veneer that accentuates the beautiful grain pattern and colour variance of the teak, the tapered legs set on the inside of the desk with angled beams. This desk also has the inset modern textured handles with the white top pulls and white keyhole accents, a very rare combination for this design.
